Garnet Ghost Town
One of my final field shoots at Rocky Mountain School of Photography was a night shoot at Garnet Ghost Town. Garnet Ghost town is about 1 hour East of Missoula and is a pretty easy drive for those that are wanting to venture out from the hustle and bustle. While there are dirt roads you will have to venture down, they are well maintained and most vehicles will have no problem making the trek.
My class didn't actually start until 9pm (9pm-midnight to be exact), so my husband and I decided to make a little date out of the trip and head up a little early. He is not from Montana so I was excited to show him the ghost town and take a drive together. I've been to Garnet Ghost Town quite often as a kid. We had access through family to stay in the old school house and spent many weekends during my childhood exploring the ghost town and even more memorable as a young kid, the frog pond at the end of town.
If you are looking for a fun day trip that takes you back in time, Garnet Ghost town is high on my list. Pack a lunch, good walking shoes and explore the old buildings and a different way of life in the earlier days of Western Montana.
